Fungi

Many species of fungus have been recorded in Knole Park and the surrounding woodland.

These include rarer species such as the earth star (Geastrum fornicatum) and the tube-gilled toadstool (Boletus pruinatus). Many of the fungi species found in the park are associated with dead wood including Fomes fomentarius, polypore bracket fungus, Betulus species, two gilled bracket fungi and Schizophyllum commune on recently fallen timber. Numerous commoner species of fungi have also been recorded, including many species of Coprinus, Mycena, wax-caps Hygrophorus and Stinkhorns.
